J.F.R. McLaren Vale Shiraz
Wine
Mr. Riggs J.F.R. McLaren Vale Shiraz is the inaugural Mr. Riggs wine, first made in 2001 as simply McLaren Vale Shiraz. In 2018 it was renamed to honour John Frederick Riggs, father of winemaker Ben Riggs.
The wine is a blend of premium McLaren Vale sites: typically the Piebald Gully, Gateway and Martins Vineyards. Each contributes a unique quality to the final blend.
The grapes from each site are fermented separately in traditional open fermenters. Following pressing, the parcels complete fermentation in oak, predominantly French with a small portion American.
The batches from each vineyard remain separate until after maturation. They are blended three months prior to bottling.
Deep dark red, Mr. Riggs J.F.R. McLaren Vale Shiraz has juicy dark berry flavours with earthy, savoury hints and mouthcoating tannins. Cellaring potential is 12 years.
